Day two - A Weather Conundrum

Today's Agenda involved going to the Zoo at 1PM. However, due to storms we have deviated from the plan. In fact, we are hunkered down in our hotel waiting for round one of the storms. Two more rounds are predicted to blow through before tomorrow morning.

You ask, "What did you do then?"

We opted to take today as our "Free Day" which was supposed to be Thursday. We ate breakfast at the hotel and then headed to downtown Louisville to tour the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory! This was a blast! We observed the creation of pro bats for the huge All Star game in Cincinnati. How Cool!

We ate lunch downtown at Smash Burger for $20 which was $5 over budget. However, we found a great deal when we purchased the Mega Caverns: two for the price of one. That gave us a $10 savings which gave us the extra $5 for lunch.  :-)

Our plan is to hang out in the hotel and eat supper by using our groceries. It seems that we should be able to return to the itinerary tomorrow morning unless the Louisville Nature Center is a muddy mess. If so, we'll just go grab rubber boots and hike in the mess. Maybe? What do you think?

  1. Can you tell us what you're eating in the hotel. We're going on vacation at month end and don't want to eat out every day. Access to fridge and microwave but no freezer or stove.

    1. Hello there! Great question! I do a few things to prep ahead of time. First, I cut and bags fruits and veggies. We also bring apples along. Second, we pack sandwich thins that we buy at Kroger (kroger brand). Third, I bring two packages of lunch meat, ring bologna, sometimes hot dogs, cheese slices and then peanut butter. Fourth I bring crackers, wheat thins and yogurt & oatmeal packets (in the event the hotel breakfast is bad).

Tonight we had a feast just because. We had turkey dogs (heated in the microwave), sliced peppers, sliced yellow squash, and corn on the cob. Believe or not, I made hot water with the coffee maker and then poured it in a cooler where I let the corn on the cob set for 15 minutes. It was cooked just right! Crazy, I know!

Tomorrow for lunch we will have turkey lunch meat on sandwich thins, blueberries, apples and carrots. Supper will be Ham Sandwiches with peppers and then some yogurt.

I have also made meals ahead of time and froze them flat in ziplock bags. I brought paper plates along and simply thawed and heated up the meals. ON our last trip I used rice in four different meals. We had a stir fry, mexican chicken, tuna casserole and a cheesy chicken casserole.

So the answer may not be super exciting now that you know it involves some prep work at home. BUT, the upside is that you are not ingesting all of that salt and fat from fast food restaurants. Reply if you have more questions! I'd be happy to answer. :-)
